GPS Route Downloads

Postby Steve » Tue Jun 07, 2011 10:18 pm

With the increasing number of motorcyclists owning GPD and GPX-compatible GPS units like the Garmin, Jesse and I felt that a nice feature for the forum would be downloadable GPS route files where members could archive their favorite NYC-area bike trips for others to sample.

If you can, upload both GPD and GPX/KML formatted files. GPX and KML files can be sanity-checked with something like GPS Visualizer before uploading them to your GPS device.

Greenwood Lake, NY

Postby Steve » Tue Jun 07, 2011 10:25 pm

Here's my first contribution: a trip I took to Greenwood Lake this past weekend to visit friends who have a house on the lake. There's also a popular motorcycle-friendly bar on the water there, Emerald Point Bar. That's the end point. I'm going to use Ear Inn as my default start point for these files because it's relatively centrally located. Those who live north of it can pick up the route in progress.

This is a pretty short one that spends most of its time getting you out of town. But there are some nice riding roads in the last 40%. Mainly, it's a good start for a day of meandering because it puts you in the middle of some great roads to explore.

Hudson Vally Region - Teh Awezome!

Postby jerlbaum » Wed Jun 08, 2011 12:17 pm

Here's a route north of the city which I've carefully assembled from at least three different "Best Of" routes. It has been thoroughly tested and enjoyed!

Where: Hudson Valley Region, within 1-2 hours of Manhattan
Length: About 156 miles
Time for Ride: 5-6 hours!
Description: All pavement, backroads, TWISTY!, HILLY!, tree-lined/forest scenery. Perfect for sport / sport touring fun!

Here's one that Jesse and I did recently. One of the best, actually (only two short WTF? semi-offroad runs). Nice sweepers, lots of lakes and ponds, farms, etc. About 230 miles (door-door Brooklyn), with a stop at a great motorcycle-friendly pub, Rhodes North Tavern on 17 in Sloatsburg, NY.
